Pros: 7" IPS Screen, 8gb internal memory(6gb for user content), Amazon Cloud Storage, Wifi, can also download Magazines, Video Player, Music Player, Amazon Integration(duhh, being an Amazon tablet), Android-based OS(can download Android Apps via Amazon Appstore). Document(Word only) and PDF viewer, 1-click Purchase. Amazon has wide variety of Kindle E-books in its store.
Cons: No camera, No GPS, No Bluetooth, a bit heavy to be an E-Book reader (413grams), requires an Amazon account, a bit difficult in downloading and purchasing Kindle e-books from the Amazon store(cuz of our location in Malaysia), does not natively read .epub formats(but there is a paid app for it - Montana), no Micro SD slot(stuck with 6gb internal memory)
My say: First things first. The Kindle Fire is an E-book Reader first, and a multimedia tablet second. It is not your typical Android tablet that the market is currently flooded with. (Hello cheap China tablet!)
As listed in the "Cons" section above, this tablet has maaaaannnyyy drawbacks (no camera, gps, bluetooth, epub reader and etc). Any cheap China tablet can do all these(at a sub-par quality of course) but the 1 major difference between the Kindle Fire and other tablets is its Amazon integration. With 1 click, you can immediately purchase a Kindle E-book(if you have already registered a credit card to your Amazon account).
Also, there are tonnssss of book titles available in the Amazon Appstore, although you'll most probably have to purchase the titles that you want since the free ones would most likely suck. So be prepared to cough up more money and forget about "Jailbreaking" this device cuz unlike iOS, there is no such thing for Amazon's devices(or Android, for that matter).
To be honest, even purchasing a Kindle E-book is quite difficult because Amazon has limited the availability of its Kindle E-books to the US and UK only! But, there is a solution to this, just change your Amazon account's address to a full but FAKE US address. and voilaaaa, you can now purchase E-books! tadaaaa
Now, about its multimedia capabilities, the Kindle Fire has no problem playing movies, songs and other Android Apps that are on the Amazon Appstore. However, the internal memory is only 6gb of user content, therefore, u wont be able to store much in it. and there is no slot for external memory
In my opinion, the Kindle Fire is for avid readers whose main source of books is Amazon.com's bookstore(either physical or ebook format), but then again, if you're really looking for an E-book reader, I'd highly recommend Kindle Touch (LINK) or Barnes & Noble's Nook Touch (LINK), cuz these 2 devices' screens WILL NOT STRAIN your eyes after a long period of time reading it, unlike devices with LCD-type screens.
Competition: Lenovo IdeaPad A1 16gb (LINK)
