[TIP] Updating your Droid

Android is a forever- updating and upgrading software

So how do u ensure that ur droid is using the latest and best software and not stuck on the same 'ol software that u got when u first bought it?

You update it!

You can check whether ur phone has any updates or not by going to
Settings > About Phone > Software Update
If there is and update available, u can download it OTA(Over The Air, maknanya directly to ur phone, bukan melalui PC)
(make sure u're connected to Wifi before doing this)

OK u've checked that there SHOULD be an update for ur phone, tp xde pon!

Dont worry, sometimes updates arrive to other regions(mainly Europe) earlier than they arrive at Malaysia, thats why lambat siket baru bole update...

Other than updating Over The Air (OTA), you can also update your phone by using ur computer via an updating software

Motorola Software Update -> LINK

Check if there are updates to ur HTC phone in Malaysia HERE. HTC usually updates their phones OTA

for Samsung, you'll have to use Samsung KIES to update ur software
but BE CAREFUL when updating via KIES, cuz sometimes there will be some issues when u update via KIES -> KIES Download Link HERE

for Sony Ericsson phones, check HERE

or, as an alternative and if u like to tinker with ur phone, u can download and install new firmwares or custom ROMS to ur phones by visiting the XDA forum HERE

*You should definitely back up ur phone cuz sometimes a major update will WIPE EVERYTHING (contacts, messages, apps) from ur phone

 Android Eclair 2.1
Android Froyo 2.2

Android Gingerbread 2.3

and the yet-to-be released Android Ice Cream Sandwich 2.4!

AP and Ori

Hello everyone!

When buying a phone, Im sure u've come across the term "AP" and "ORI", do u know what these terms mean? Or do u just nod in agreement, acting like u know what it means?
haha

anywayy,

Original Phone means that it was brought into Malaysia via an OFFICIAL DISTRIBUTOR that has been given official rights to officially distribute it across Malaysia to sellers and re-sellers and gives its official warranty to the phones that it has officially distributed!! hahaha
Original Warranty can be claimed at any of the phone brand's Service Center. So if u want to claim for warranty for an original Nokia Phone, all u have to do is send it to a Nokia Care Center near you! no need to send it to the shop that u bought it from(but u can if u want to la)

Original Sets will give u peace of mind as defects are UNcommon but NOT impossible, but it will certainly burn a bigger hole in ur pocket! haha

Original sets are also phones that are distributed by the carriers/telcos (Maxis, Digi, Celcom, Umobile)

Official Distributors according to phone brand:

  • Nokia - Zitron, Avaxx and Arista
  • Sony Ericsson - Thorus, Midland
  • HTC - SiS
  • Samsung - Samsung Malaysia Electrics
  • Motorola - Brighstar
  • Blackberry - Brightstar
  • LG - Thorus
  • iPhone - Apple

AP Phones on the other hand are phones that was imported from various countries (Mexico, Indonesia, Hungary, Hong Kong) into Malaysia by local distributors (S-Link, PDAGadgets) who then gives their own version of their warranty.
Usually 12 months for the phone itself, 3 months for LCD, 1 month for accessories.

AP phones are generally cheaper than original phones (range from RM50-RM400 cheaper) but there is a risk in buying AP phones (there is a risk in buying anything, actually, just as long as u make ur research first)

Risks of buying AP sets:

  • Some(not all) phone shops may claim that the phones that they're selling are brand New AP sets, when in fact, they are actually Recon(underwater) sets, Refurbished(old phone, new parts, look new, sell like new) sets.
  • Phones may be locked (they cannot be used on all/certain carriers/telcos)
  • Phone may not work properly (It was made in Mexico, it will only work properly under Mexico's network settings/etc, wont work well in Malaysia)
  • Might be troublesome/slow when claiming for warranty

Misconceptions about AP sets:
  • Not all AP sets are destined to ROSAK after a month's usage
  • AP sets are not necessarily China Phones(u know, the ones with the dual sim card, TV antenna and crappy camera..haha)

That being said, most of the brand new phones I sell are AP sets, and none of my customers have anything to complain about (except for HTC Incredible S customers who are facing rebooting problems because of being the 1st batch of production..)

Pop my berry! the Blackberry Review

Hello everyone,

Today I'll be talking about Blackberrys, why u should or should not get it and why it is so damn popular!

Lets be honest here, when u look at someone who's holding a Blackberry, it automatically generates a thought in ur head that's saying something like this "pergh, Blackberry...kaya gile" ataupon "pergh, Blackberry...cool gile"...

OK fine, mungkin aku sorg je. tp sebenarnye Blackberry ni, like iPhone, is kinda overrated. serious dowh.
Mari kita belajar kenapa!

Advantage of Blackberry, or BB.
  • Email manager terbaik
  • BBM
  • BIS
  • Integrated Social Networking
  • QWERTY keyboard yg enak ditekan
  • Alot of accessories available (casings, pouches etc)

Disadvantage
  • Mahal
  • Spec x seberapa/x padan dgn harga
  • gile sedeyh camera
  • Limited apps available

Walaupon BB sgt mahal dan spec die x padan dgn harga nya, tp ia masih sgt popular dan terhangat di pasaran because of 3 reasons -

Status - just like the iPhone, its the "in" gadget. make, "cool"
Email - many businesspersons use Blackberrys to manage their many email accounts and get push emails(emails on the go. receive emails to ur phone just like how u receive text messages)
BBM - Blackberry phones work on a different frequency then other phones, thats why it has BBM. if u are a BB user and u subscribe to BBM, u get unlimited IM (instant messaging) with other BB users no matter where u are for a period of time(depending on ur subscription). very useful for people overseas who want to regularly communicate with people back home(or anyone else all over the world)

When or Why u shud get a BB
  1. if u are staying overseas and want to regularly communicate with people back home(or anyone else all over the world)
  2. if u use ur email alot and need push email
  3. if u are a heavy texter

When or Why u shud NOT get a BB (recommendations only)
  1. if u do NOT require push emails or BBM, do not get urself a Blackberry. Go for other phone models that offer better specs at a similar price to a BB
  2. if u're a prepaid user, to subscribe to BBM n BIS, it'll cost u RM2 or something a day.. imagine if u activate BBM everyday?unless if u text more than RM2 a day, then by all means, get urself a BB.
  3. if u want a phone for gaming, BB is NOT for u.
  4. if u want a phone that has alot of apps(games, productivity), get an Android phone instead
  5. if u want a phone with a good camera. BB phones have generally poor camera performance

CAUTION! If u do wish to buy a brand new BB, pls be aware that there are alot of shops out there that are selling Recon sets or Refurbished sets as Band New and Original Sets. As I've mentioned in my previous post "Say No To Jalan Raja Laut", these refurbished sets may not be fully functional and may become faulty as soon as u part ways with ur cash...
So, be a smart buyer and research first before buying. Or else u could just buy from me~
Lalalalalaal XD

HTC Incredible S - Brand New & Available.

Item: Brand New. HTC Incredible S

Price: RM1650.00

Warranty: 12 Months. AP Set

Location of seller: Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Sepang, Bangi, Subang Jaya, Puchong

Age of item: Brand New!

My say: sgt cantik ini phone!! like seriously, if i had the money, i'd buy this phone in a heartbeat! XD
but since i dont have the money, all i can do is sell and review it! haha

In my honest opinion, this is the best high-end phone currently in the market at a reasonable price(for a high-end phone la)..At 4", its size is just perfect, neither too big nor too small. brilliant Super LCD that almost beats my Galaxy S SuperAMOLED screen! hehe Accessories for this phone is kinda hard to come by, but i can get it for u as seen in the 2nd pic above. =D
Great phone at a great price (for now)! but be informed, the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S II is just around the corner so u might wanna save up the money for that~..haha

Pros: Reasonable price for a high-end phone. Standard connectivity available - GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth. Superb 4" display, smooth interface thanks to the 1GHz processor and 786MB RAM! 8mpx camera with dual LED flash(really2 bright), 1.3mpx front-facing camera, Android Froyo 2.2 but soon upgradeable to Gingerbread 2.4

Cons: Funnily, the front-facing camera cannot be used to make video calls at the moment (though rumors say the next upgrade is expected to rectify the problem. front camera can be used for skype, YM, fring video chat). Audio quality is not up to par. Next-generation phones with dual cores just around the corner

Competition: Samsung Galaxy S < SE XPERIA Arc < HTC Incredible S = HTC Desire HD < LG Optimus 2X

Data Plan

Are u an owner of a smartphone?
Are u a Facebook/Twitter addict?
Do u always hang out at places where there is WiFi connection?
Do u have the constant need to update your status and tell everyone what u're currently doing?

If you are, then constant connectivity is what you really need.

A smartphone is not complete without a data plan.

Fortunately, i have a data plan for my smartphone, even though I am using Hotlink prepaid.

If you are a prepaid user, and u want mobile internet, u either have to get WiFi connection or subscribe to ur telco's mobile internet, with costs varying depending on the length and data quota(limit) of the plan.

for Celcom UOX - Daily broadband - RM5
weekly broadband - RM18..not sure of the data quota for both plans

for Hotlink - refer pic below. taken from Hotlink website.

I am a Hotlink user and I am on 500MB/month data plan.
and I only pay RM130 for the whole YEAR and get 500MB EVERY MONTH.

which is cheap considering that if u subscribe to Hotlink's monthly 500MB pass, u need to pay RM68 every month. (refer pic above)

since i only pay RM130 for the whole year, u can say that i only pay RM10.83/month. ASK ME HOW. =D

as u can see from the picture below, I have only used about 70MB worth of packet data, and i have 2 weeks left before it expires and renews itself. so 500MB worth of data is more than enough for me.

for more information on how to acquire this plan, do email me at maliqqq07@gmail.com
=D

[EDITED: The Hotlink service that i am currently using has been discontinued. I guess I'm kinda lucky for having gotten it early(like 2 months ago). Sorry for the inconvenience caused! =/ ]

Welcoming Note!

Assalamualaikum and a good day to you!

Welcome to ThePhoneForYou! I am Maliq and allow me to be your Phone Guide!

Buying a mobile phone is a big investment! You are spending ALOT of money on that small device that is as big as your palm
of course, you'd want that device to last for a LOOOOONGGG TIME!
You want to buy a phone that suits you best, that you can use easily.

Itching to get a brand new phone? but dont know which to buy seeing as there's so many phones currently in the market?

NO WORRIES! drop me a comment or an e-mail, I will ask you a few questions based on the specifications u require or prioritize, the Operating Software (OS) that you are comfortable using or have always wanted to try and many other simple criterias

After you've chosen your dream phone and are certain that you want to purchase one, let me know!

You can either choose to buy that phone on your own at a shop nearby OR (and i prefer this option btw :P) you could ask me to look one for you!

Why choose to buy from me instead of from Mobile Phone traders at various shops/malls?

Easy, because these shops sell their phones at a much higher price than i do. These shops have rent and utilities costs to consider, whereas I do not. For example, a Blackberry Curve 8520 at shops in Digital Mall will cost u around RM800, but I can get you one for only RM700!

and u get the EXACT SAME THING but at a lower price!! Dont believe me? Try me. Ask me the price of a specific phone and compare my price with the price offered by those shops.

of course, i only sell quality phones, not recon sets, not refurbished sets, comes with warranty(unless stated otherwise).
I'm selling mostly used phones, but if u'd prefer a brand new one, I can get it for you at a lower price than at the shops.

I’m a full-time student and what i do here is part-time, but so far, I’ve sold 2 phones in the past month to strangers met online. None of them have anything to complain to and are free to contact me should anything happen to their phones.

Thanks for visiting ThePhoneForYou! :D
